This effectively reduces the price of the device. Are budget smartphones worth the risk? Is the Smart 5A smart enough? Let’s find the answer.

Infinix Smart 5A Price

The Infinix Smart 5A was originally priced at Rs. The price was Rs. 6,499 at its initial sale. However, the price has now risen to Rs. 6,699. Reliance Jio offers Rs. 550 as an “upfront cash assistance” offer. The buyer will receive Rs. 550 in cash, but the device will remain locked to a Jio SIM. The Smart 5A comes in one configuration, with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. It’s available in Ocean Wave and Quetzal Cyan as well as Midnight Black.

Infinix Smart 5A design

The Infinix Smart 5A smartphone is large and has a 6.2-inch display. It also features a dewdrop-notch at the top. The sides and top of the screen have relatively thin bezels, but the chin is much thicker. Infinix has a dual flash setup on the front. Two LED flashes are located on each side of the selfie camera at the top bezel. Although the plastic body is not premium-looking, it is acceptable for this price.

The power and volume buttons are located on the right, with the SIM tray on the left. These buttons were easy to reach and gave a clicky response once pressed. The bottom has a 3.5mm headphone socket, a Micro USB port, the primary microphone, as well as a speaker. Infinix could have removed the Micro-USB port altogether and used a USB Type C port.

The Infinix Smart 5A measures 8.75mm thick and weighs 183g. It was easy to use with one hand. It has a fingerprint scanner at the back that I found slightly too high for my reach. The Smart 5A features a dual rear camera system in a slightly elevated module. The glossy back panel is easy to pick up fingerprints and can be seen from certain angles. Infinix offers a transparent box in its boxes, which may help with this.

Software and specifications for Infinix Smart5A

Infinix selected the MediaTek Helio A20 SoC as the Smart 5A processor. This quad-core processor is based on a 12nm process. There is only 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. The dedicated microSD card slot allows you to increase storage up to 256GB.

The Smart 5A features a 6.52-inch HD+ LCD display with a high 20:9 aspect ratio. The Smart 5A has a peak brightness rating of 500 nits, which is good indoors but may feel a little low outdoors. The Smart 5A supports Bluetooth 5 dual-band Wi-Fi, dual VoLTE, and VoWiFi. The box contains a 5000mAh battery and a 10W charging cable.

The software on the Smart 5A is XOS 7.6 with Android 11 (Go Edition). My unit was updated with the June Android security patches. There are a few customizations available in the UI, as well as a variety of preinstalled applications.

AHA Games and Palm Store are preinstalled and can be used as an alternative to the Play Store. The Palm Store was annoying as it sent me notifications each day. Some useful features include WhatsApp mode which allows only data access to WhatsApp Messenger. You can also access the smart panel from any screen and get shortcuts to your favorite apps.

Infinix Smart 5A performance

You’ll need to be realistic about your expectations for the Infinix Smart 5A, which is a budget smartphone. Although basic usage was easy, I did sometimes have to wait for the device to load apps. It takes longer for heavy apps to load. The Smart 5A has only 2GB RAM. However, its multitasking capabilities are acceptable considering the price. Sometimes, it took slightly longer to unlock the Smart 5A with the fingerprint scanner or face detection.

AnTuTu gave the Smart 5A a score of 74,984 and it scored 125 and 430 in Geekbench 5 single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. 3DMark’s Sling Shot graphics tests gave the Smart 5A 416 points. It also ran GFXBench’s Car Chase and T-Rex scenes at 3.2fps each.

It took a long time for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), to load on my Smart 5A. It defaulted at Smooth graphics and medium frame rate. These settings caused frequent lags and stuttering, particularly in dense areas. Casual games like ran perfectly on the phone.

The Infinix Smart 5A had decent battery life. It lasted me for a day and a half with moderate usage. In our HD video loop test, it lasted 15 hours and 5 mins. The 10W charger came with the phone and charged it to 20% after 30 minutes, and to 44% in one hour. It took more than two hours to fully charge it.

Infinix Smart5A cameras

The Smart 5A has a basic dual camera setup with an 8-megapixel primary and secondary AI (depth), camera. It has an 8-megapixel camera located in the dewdrop hole, as well as two flashes hidden in the top bezel. It is easy to use the camera app and you can choose from different shooting modes. The app supports AI scene detection and auto HDR. The camera was slow to respond when I used it, and the AI took a while to recognize each scene.

Average daylight photos were taken with the Infinix Smart 5A. The dynamic range was not good and the photos looked flat. Auto HDR took a while to activate, but it did make a slight improvement in dynamic range, though details were still not very good.

Although close-up shots were good, the phone was slow to focus. Although the output has a depth effect, details are good too. Bokeh mode is available for portraits. While this mode was not able to capture faces, it worked well with objects. It produced a very average output and you can’t adjust the background blur.

Low-light shots were less than average. The output was not sharp and dark. The Night mode is not available on this phone. Photos taken in daylight looked average and flat. For slightly higher output in low light, the dual-LED flashes can be used.

Video recording is limited to 1080p with the primary and selfie cameras. The Smart 5A does not have video stabilization. The Smart 5A’s daytime footage was merely average and the low-light footage was almost unusable.

Smart 5A has a lot of advantages to reach the sub-Rs. In 2021, the price will be 7,000 The display is large and the battery lasts for a good 5,000mAh. However, you will have to compromise on the camera quality. The Helio A20 processor provides decent performance, but Infinix could offer a 3GB RAM option for those who are willing to pay more.

The Infinix Smart 5A is a good option if you have a tight budget. While the Xiaomi Redmi 9A offers a faster processor and 3GB RAM, it does not offer a fingerprint scanner. The Moto E7 Power is a good option if you’re willing to spend more.
