Apple AirPods are a favourite of iPhone users. Android lovers have plenty to choose from, with many new options launched by Oppo, Samsung, LG and LG in the last few months. Jabra, a Danish audio brand, has updated its wireless product line with the Elite 85t.

Jabra Elite 85t, which is the successor to the Elite 75t’s price tag, is available at Rs. The Jabra Elite 85t, the successor to the Elite 75t, is priced at Rs. 17,999.

It also features an important new feature, active noise cancellation. Jabra’s experience in this field ensures that the Elite 85t will deliver excellent performance when making voice calls. It also boasts great sound quality. These expectations are met by the Jabra Elite85t. Check out our review.

Wireless charging via the Jabra Elite 85t with three microphones in each earpiece

The Jabra Elite 85t has minor changes in design but it retains the same styling and fit as its predecessors. It looks very much like the Elite 75t, which was launched in 2020.

In order to provide better noise isolation and fit, the inner moulding has undergone some modifications. Three microphones are now located on the outer coloured portions of the earpieces.

The Jabra Elite 85t, like other Elite products, is extremely comfortable and offers great passive noise isolation. It also looks great. Jabra’s unique styling is something I have come to love.

It’s a classic in its own right and a testament to the company’s Scandinavian roots. Each earpiece is equipped with a button that has an LED through it. This indicates the status of the headphones. The sales package includes three pairs of silicone eartips and a USB Type C charging cable.

The Jabra Elite 85t’s charging case is almost identical to the Elite 75t. It has a small, compact design, magnetic lid, USB Type C port at the back and an indicator LED below the logo. The Elite 85t’s case also features Qi wireless charging, which was not available on the previous models.

The headset has a large button on each earpiece. You can customize the controls through the Jabra sound+ companion app for iOS or Android.

Playback controls can be used to invoke the voice assistant and cycle through different sound modes (ANC, hearthrough or both off), using single, double or triple-presses.

Additional functions can be found on the buttons for placing and receiving calls. The two earpieces may also be set up separately.

The controls can be adjusted volume but there is no way to do so. However, they are simple enough to use. The buttons are simple to use, and the earpieces remained secure even after repeated use.

The earpieces have sensors that will automatically pause playback if one of the earpieces is removed and resume playback when the other is worn. The Jabra Elite 85t is a true wireless earphone that has a master-slave arrangement.

The right earpiece connects with the source device while the left connects to it. The right earpiece can be used independently of the left, but the left earpiece must be close to the right to function.

Jabra Sound+ has an app that automatically detects Elite 85t headsets when they are connected to the source device. This app is excellent, well-designed and does the job efficiently.

You can adjust the equalizer, adjust the ANC and hear through levels, update firmware, and many other things. Jabra’s My Moment sound modes settings and Soundscapes are two other interesting options.

You can create custom sound profiles for My Moment based on your environment, and Soundscapes allow you to play soothing sounds through the app.

Jabra Elite 85t features 12mm dynamic drivers and six microphones, three each on each earpiece. These are used for active noise cancellation as well as voice-based functions. The earpieces have an IPX4 rating for water resistance.

They can withstand a few drops of water without causing damage. Bluetooth 5.1 is used for connectivity. It also supports the AAC and SBC codecs. Jabra’s inability to support advanced Bluetooth codescs is a problem.

With active noise cancelling on and at moderate volume levels, I was capable of getting around five hours of battery time on the earpieces. The Jabra Elite 85t case provided three additional full charges for an additional 20-hour battery life. Given the features and specifications of this headset, it is quite reasonable.

Jabra Elite 85t has great sound and ANC

Jabra’s “flagship-only” approach to true wireless has produced some great products over the years. The Elite 85t is expected to be a significant step up in this range.

The core experience is the same; the Jabra Elite85t is an all-round performer that offers a competent, capable experience in all functions. The Elite 85t is capable of listening to music, making calls or watching videos.

While the Jabra Elite 75t sounds great, it can be quite aggressive with its bass. The Elite 85t has a more balanced sound signature that focuses on detail and coherence.

Although the equaliser can be adjusted through the app it was responsive to changes. However, the factory-tuned sound signature was perfect for most genres.

The Jabra Elite 85t was instantly responsive and engaging when I started with Waiting by Oliver Heldens.

Although the sound signature isn’t as powerful with the lows than the Elite 75t’s, it still delivers enough punch and attack to provide a pleasant listening experience. Waiting was also well-recorded in the mid-range and highs, giving this dance track a distinct feel.

Daft Punk’s announcement that they were ending their tour was a wakeup call, I decided to revisit some of the more well-known tracks of the group, such as Get Lucky. The lows were distinct and felt pronounced.

However, Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk’s synthesised robotic voices and vocals were sharp and distinct. It has a beautiful, natural sound that adapts to any music. These tracks were created by the Jabra Elite 85t. It was capable of delivering a lot of character and detail.

Although Bluetooth codecs can be useful, they are not essential. Good tuning can compensate for the fact that they only support basic SBC or AAC codescs.

Jabra’s exceptional tuning of the Elite 85t makes up for the absence of advanced Bluetooth codec support. The 85t had good sound quality. However, it is not as good as some of the other options like the Sennheiser CX400BT and Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro in this area.

Both headsets are very impressive in terms of detail and coherence. The Jabra Elite 85t is not as advanced.

This headset would make a big difference if you listen to high-resolution audio tracks. The Jabra Elite 85t is the best choice if you intend to use streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music.

The Jabra Elite 85t’s active noise cancellation is excellent. It is comparable to our top picks in true wireless. Although the silence isn’t as strong as the AirPods Pro’s, there is a noticeable reduction in background noises, indoors and outdoors.

The level of quiet isn’t as overwhelming as the AirPods Pro. Although the hear-through mode sounds decent, it is not as natural-sounding. The app allows you to adjust both the ANC and hear-through levels.

Jabra’s experience with professional voice-based products has been a long benefit to its consumer products line. The Elite 85t headset is a great headset for calling.

The sound was clear from both ends of the call and the connection was stable over reasonable distances in my house so that I could use the earphones comfortably even though I was only 4.5m away from the source device.

Verdict

Jabra’s wireless headsets have always been a pleasure to use, and the Elite 85t is a great pair of earphones.

This pair of earphones has a lot to offer: excellent sound quality, active noise cancelling, and call performance. It works with any input or source, and is completely compatible with all devices.

Even though it isn’t the most advanced earphone, even at a lower price, the Jabra Elite85t can provide a great experience for all your needs.

While the AirPods Pro and Galaxy Buds Pro might be more suitable for certain use cases, the Jabra Elite 85t has all the best bits of each.
