Best OnePlus Nord 2 Review

OnePlus Nord 2: OnePlus Nord 2 is the latest entry in the affordable Nord series, but it should not be your first choice.

As the successor to the OnePlus Nord, OnePlus Nord 2 was launched. OnePlus’s OnePlus Nord smartphone was a significant one. It offered affordable options to consumers.

Although the base price of the OnePlus Nord 2 is slightly higher than that of the original Nord, it’s still a good deal and will be competitive with the more affordable Nord CE 5G. The new OnePlus Nord 2 has better resolution cameras and a faster SoC with 5G connectivity.

It also features stereo speakers. Is this a worthy replacement for the OnePlus Nord? Or does it not offer the same level of value? To find out, I tested the OnePlus Nord 2.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Price in India

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is priced at Rs. The base variant, which comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, costs Rs. 27,999 in India. A variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is also available at Rs.

The top-of-the-line option, which includes 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, is available at Rs. 29,999. 34,999 The OnePlus Nord 2 comes in three color options: Blue Haze (Gray Sierra), and Green-Wood. This is an exclusive Indian model.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Design

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has the same family look like the OnePlus 9-series smartphones. It features a 6.43-inch display and a hole-punch camera at the top left. Only the chin is slightly thicker than the panel’s thin bezels.

OnePlus has chosen a glass back for its Nord 2, which gives it a premium feel and look. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection is available at the back and front. The back glass curves towards its sides, where it meets the frame, making it easier to grip.

Although the mid-frame is made of plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap. The button placement is excellent, with the power and volume buttons to the right and left of the frame. They are easy to reach when the device is held in one hand.

You will find the alert slider on the right, just above the power button. It allows you to quickly switch between ringer modes.

The Nord 2 does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the more affordable OnePlus Nord CE 5G review has one. The Nord 2 5G comes with stereo speakers, which is a nice addition if you weren’t expecting a headphone jack.

You will find the USB Type-C port at the bottom, next to the dual SIM tray. Only the secondary microphone is located at the top of the frame.

The OnePlus Nord 2 doesn’t have an IP rating, which is what other phones in the same segment like the Samsung Galaxy A52 (Review), and Poco F3 GT have.

The camera module, which contains three sensors, is located in the top left corner of the back. Two of the lenses look much larger than the OnePlus 9R (Review). The module’s edges protrude a little, which causes the phone to rock around when it is placed on a flat surface.

OnePlus used the MediaTek Dimensity1200 processor to power it’s Nord 2. The processor is officially named the Density 1200-AI by OnePlus.

The OnePlus Nord 2 offers 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB LPDDR4X RAM options. You also have the option of either 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. For this review, I used the top-end variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Nord 2 storage is not expandable.

The Nord 2 supports dual 5G, 4G VoLTE, and Bluetooth 5.2. NFC is also supported. There are five satellite navigation systems. The OnePlus Nord 2 has two Nano-SIM slots and a dual-SIM option.

OnePlus’ OxygenOS software has earned a good reputation for providing a simple user experience. Recently, OnePlus announced that OxygenOS would be merging with Oppo’s colors in order to share a common codebase.

The OnePlus Nord 2 runs OxygenOS 11 on top of Android 11. You can already see the results of the merger in the UI. The Camera and Settings apps show some ColourOS influence. These changes aren’t dramatic and the UI feels very OxygenOS.

Google apps are included with the device, along with a few OnePlus apps. OnePlus promises two years of software updates, and three years of security patches with the device. This should make it last longer. My OnePlus Nord 2 was running the July Android security update, which is the most recent one.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Performance

Smooth scrolling is possible with the OnePlus Nord 2. Smooth scrolling is possible with the default display setting of 90Hz. The display can be customized to your liking by changing the color profile.

You can enable OnePlus’ AI enhancements in video from the Settings. Supported apps can be used to enhance the contrast and sharpness of videos (this was possible on YouTube).

The in-display fingerprint scanner was very responsive and required only one attempt to unlock my device. Also, face recognition worked consistently well.

To test the new Dimensity 1200-AI, I put the OnePlus Nord 2 through benchmarks. The OnePlus Nord 2 scored 5,82,748 points in AnTuTu. It scored 8,323 points in PCMark Work 3.0. It scored 819 and 2,749 in Geekbench 5, single-core, and multi-core tests, respectively.

The Nord 2 also scored well in graphics benchmarks. It managed 74fps in GFXBench’s T-Rex scenes and 34fps in Car Chase scenes.

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which I was playing on my OnePlus Nord 2, defaulted to HD graphics with a High frame rate.

The 65W Warp Charger, which comes with the OnePlus Nord 2, can charge your battery up to 58 percent in just 15 minutes or 98 percent in just 30 minutes.

OnePlus Nord 2 Cameras

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G features a triple camera setup, with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary and secondary camera. This camera is also on the OnePlus 9.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is reminiscent of the older OnePlus smartphones that were great value for money. The Nord 2 will be a relief to those who don’t want to spend as much on the OnePlus flagship series.

It stays true to the company’s core philosophy and offers good performance and great cameras for the price. It’s also a great software experience. I hope the integration of OxygenOS and colors doesn’t change that.

The Poco F3 GT is a good alternative for those who are focused on gaming and performance. The OnePlus Nord 2 is a great all-rounder for this price.
