BEST TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV (C715) REVIEW
The TCL C715 brings with it a QLED display, support for 4K, HDR 10 along with Dolby Vision. It can replicate Dolby Vision content and SDR content quite well.
However, with HDR 10 content, it displays a warm tone onto the skin through closeup scenes. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
It runs on Android TV giving you access to the Play Store and a good programs library. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The TV includes 4 far-field mics for hands-free controls, but this experience isn’t fluid all of the time. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Overall the image performance of the TV is good albeit a few scenarios and can be great if tweaked the correct way.

TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: DISPLAY AND PICTURE QUALITY
Let us dive into the thing that matters the most original – display and image quality. For Dolby Vision content it has two settings – Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark.
We will run through all of this in the sections below but let us get a few burning points from the way. The TV has a QLED panel, which we saw on the OnePlus Q1 Guru we reviewed previously.
The TCL C715 had the exact same yellowish tint with some HDR articles, an issue we saw with all the OnePlus TV as well. However, after we advised TCL about the issue, they issued an OTA upgrade to the TV.
We will delve into this in more detail below. The TCL C715 includes a VA panel that means it can create good black levels but will undermine the viewing angles. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Let’s dive in and see how the TCL C715 works within our suite of content tests.
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: 4K AND HDR PERFORMANCE
There’s Plenty of 4K and HDR content available via services such as Netflix and Prime Videos for you to make the most of HDR articles on the TV.
Even though Netflix has a large portfolio of Dolby Vision content, a lot of the articles on Prime Videos is at HDR 10 or HDR 10+.
YouTube also has a portfolio of content in HDR 10 providing us streamable articles on all available HDR standards.
Beginning with Dolby Vision, you have two presets to choose from – Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark.
We played with our typical slew of Dolby Vision content on Netflix which included Our PlanetEarth, Altered Carbon and many many more. Both the shows look beautifully immersive about the TV.
In Altered Carbon Season 1 Episode 7, during the warehouse battle sequence, there’s a fantastic combination of bright light coming in from the ceiling, along with the dark partition of the warehouse and the protagonist’s dark armour suit. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The chinks in his armour are clearly visible, along with the particulars in his match, which is actually good. This is a detail that is lost on additional HDR funding TVs. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Moving over to HDR 10+ and HDR 10, we used Amazon Prime Video and YouTube for it, respectively. The content overall looks good but has a warmer tone to it, something we saw with all the OnePlus TV.
So for instance, at the Grand Tour Season 1 Episode 1 where there are a whole lot of cars driving through the desert, there’s a warmer tone into the colours that make the sand and the faces of individuals yellower than it ought to be. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
TCL issued an OTA update to the TV once we informed them of the issue. The warm tone in the total scene did improve, but we found that in some few select scenes that there was a sign of warm colours, over it should be.
This is something most might not detect, but if you understand what you are looking for, you will see it. It is only evidently visible during closeups of individuals faces in certain scenes of our evaluation clips.
Same with the trailer of Blade Runner 2049 and Black Widow That’s in HDR 10 on YouTube. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Both trailers exhibited a warmer colour palette in certain areas of the trailer and while the update failed to fix many of this, the faces are at which it was noticed during closeups.
Total, the Dolby Vision performance of this TV is fantastic as well as the HDR 10 implementation of this TV is good with slight hiccups.
Using a 4K Fire TV Stick I also streamed the Dark Knight in Dolby Vision around the TV through the Apple TV app and the experience has been really great with lush colors, deep blacks and the shining armour of the Dark Knight.
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: FHD PERFORMANCE
We played with a lot of FHD content in the TV like Young Sheldon, Big Bang Theory, a lot of YouTube videos and more and FHD articles is presented beautifully on the TV.
As this material is at SDR, the color reproduction of SDR is good, and at the dynamic preset, brings out punchy colours some may like. From the normal picture , the colours appear true to the source and great.
Even Spider-Man: Far From Home that has Spiderman in a black suit and a fresh red and black suit exhibited good, true to source colours which looked good on the TV. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The Dynamic preset created the colours in this pop up a bit too much and also the conventional preset was one that universe nicely.
Overall, FHD and SDR content ingestion is excellent with this TV. Even though it should be mentioned that SD and 720p content can display some jagged edges. But again, this is really a 65-inch TV.
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: GAMING PERFORMANCE
We played with Doom Eternal (review), Forza Horizon 4 (review) and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on the Xbox One X with this TV.
A game such as Doom Eternal that in HDR, seems really good. In the brightly colored enemies waiting to be glory killed to the muzzle flash of the shotgun and demons appearing from portals, all of it looked immersive.
The colour reproduction was good and also the TV switched to HDR on its own. I needed to manually enable sport style though to help with input lag.
Forza Horizon is just another good example of HDR gambling on the TV.
When travelling under the shadow of trees, the game occasionally would look dull on other funding HDR TVs but it seemed bright with this one. Even the cars and environments looked bright and comprehensive.
It does not support HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 is maintained for the flagship 8K QLED TV. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Total, the C715 has a good QLED panel. It may replicate some good colours in SDR and Dolby Vision.
It’s only with content that has a predefined warm tone and sometimes the skin tones of people who looks warmer than I would like.
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: AUDIO PERFORMANCE
Contrary to the TCL C815, the C715 does not bring with it sound from Onkyo. It has standard 30W downward-firing speakers and for viewing regular TV, they get the job finished.
All the material we consumed above was played using the internal speakers of the TV and for the most part, they seemed good.
The vocals in films and TV shows were clear and there’s some thump to them to enjoy films. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Where they fall level is with games such as Doom and films like the John Wick show where there is a good deal of bass-heavy gunfire combined with rock music and the occasional dialogue.
This is where the sound falters. But it’s surprisingly great if you watch TV shows, documentaries or some other material that has more emphasis on voice than the score.
Yet another thing to note is that although the sound settings in the TV show Dolby Atmos as a setting, don’t expect the noise to emerge from on top or behind you.
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: UI
The TCL QLED TV runs on the Android TV platform and it’s the second TV I’ve seen that you could control with your voice without the use of the remote control. More on that later.
The UI which you get together with all the TV is vanilla Android TV and there’s little here to talk about that you do not already know.
It has rows of apps you’ll be able to customize, provides you access to the Play Store to obtain more apps and TCL states it will encourage the TV for the next 3 versions of Android TV. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
Android TV has been notorious for being slow on TVs and over the last few decades, that reputation has dwindled as the OS has become smoother and more responsive.
For the most part, the Android encounter on the TCL C715 was fluid with the occasional app crash or hiccup, which is fine.
It isn’t as easy because the Android TV experience on some more expensive Sony TVs but the”more expensive” comparison isn’t a warranted one.
The far-field mics on the TV are a different story altogether. To start with, there are 4 mics on the TV and you have to physically enable them using a toggle concealed beneath the TV.
Once enabled, you can go into the settings to enable or disable the hands-free voice recognition of the TV. While it does work, its overall performance is a hit or miss – quite inconsistent.
I am able to say things like”Ok Google, Play Stranger things on Netflix” also it will comply. Sometimes, the voice prompt on the TV just hangs and I have to wait around 15 seconds for it to reset by itself.
Or hotel to the remote controller. As a purpose, at this stage, it’s a hit or miss and not as fluid as we saw on the Sony A9G OLED TV .
The picture settings on the TV are easy to find, easy to use and in the event you change something by accident, you can always restore it to the default settings readily. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The TCL TV comes with a very minimalistic remote controller with a curved spine, giving it a really fantastic grip.
It has a dedicated button to start Netflix just and I’d prefer a programmable second hotkey for Prime Videos or Hotstar or some other service that I see. The buttons are nicely laid out, self-explanatory and easy to use.
The TV has a good grip and fits well in the hands too. No complaints .
TCL C715 QLED ANDROID TV: BUILD AND DESIGN
Finally, let’s discuss the build and design of the TV. The TV is not the slimmest one out there and that’s ok, considering it is a QLED TV and includes a whopping 1296 dimming zones.
Regardless of this, it is hardly thicker than many flagship LED TVs and that is saying something. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
All ports are laid out on one side and there are no ports facing the back of the TV which makes navigating the ports easy when lifting the TV onto a wall. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
For connectivity, the TV includes 3 HDMI ports (HDMI 1 is ARC enabled), two USB ports, ethernet port, good old antenna, optical out AV in and cans out. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The connectivity choices are plentiful along with the TV also supports Bluetooth and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi
There’s a little LED strip at the bottom of the TV and you can choose to light this up when you use voice commands. However, on its own, it is not intrusive and doesn’t hamper the viewing experience.
Have For those that want to put this 65-inch TV on a tabletop, there is good news for you. There are two positions for the feet of this TV.
One is a wider position and the other a thinner one. The thinner place is the one we employed. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
This helps you place a larger size TV on a smaller tabletop in the event you don’t have a really wider entertainment center and need to place the TV on a tabletop. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
For the ones that are looking to place this 65-inch TV on a tabletop, there is very good news for you. There are two positions for the feet of this TV. One is a wider position and another a narrower one.
The narrower place is that the one we employed. This helps you put a bigger size TV on a smaller tabletop in the event you don’t have a really wider amusement center and need to set the TV on a tabletop. (TCL 65 INCHES 4K QLED ANDROID TV)
The 65-inch TCL C715 finds itself at a sweet place of Rs 80,000. There are just a few 65-inch TVs that come in this budget, so if size and QLED backlighting is something you’re looking for, then this is a good option.
But this TV is also available in 55-inches and that is where the competition is heating up. The 55-inch variant of the TV is priced at Rs 56,000.
However, with the features available, the TCL TV does make a good case for itself. However, with the slight niggles and a OnePlus TV on the horizon, I’d say consider your options before making a buy decision.
- Simple to use UI
- Functional and well-built remote controller
- Dual positioning for tabletop feet is great
- A warm tone onto the skin with some HDR 10 content
- Inconsistent far-field mic voice control experience
- UI can upset Sometimes
